Supertuscans are high-quality Tuscan red wines produced outside the traditional DOC and DOCG regulations, blending native grapes such as Sangiovese with international varieties—mainly Cabernet
Sauvignon and Merlot—to create complex, structured, and elegant wines. Their story began in the late 1960s with Sassicaia, and the term “Supertuscan” was coined by the English-speaking press in the 1980s to describe these revolutionary wines that achieved global success. Production area: The Chianti region, in the heart of Tuscany, is renowned for its rolling hills, sun-drenched vineyards, and charming medieval villages. Olive groves, cypress trees, and historic estates dot the landscape, creating a timeless scenery where tradition, culture, and world-class winemaking come together.
VINIFICATION: Traditional in red with controlled temperature years
MATURATION: Large oak casks and 500 L tonneaux
TASTING NOTES
FOOD PAIRINGS
Moderate to intense ruby red colour.
Nose: Intense and persistent with aromas of bing cherry, satsuma plum, and crushed violets. Ethereal spicy hints of pepper, tobacco and coffee, but also fruity with floral and herbaceous notes.
Palate: Warm, soft, savoury, fruity, with elegant tannins and hints of toast on the finish.
Supertuscans pair beautifully with rich and flavorful dishes such as roasted red meats, game (wild boar, venison, pheasant), and slow-cooked preparations like braises and stews. They are also ideal with aged cheeses, spiced dishes, and even Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Their complexity and structure harmonize with intense flavors, enhanced by Mediterranean ingredients such as aromatic herbs.
