Description
The Solider Farms range get its name from the Soldier Settlement Scheme which was first enacted in 1915 by the South Australian government with NSW, Victoria, and Western Australian following soon after, by 1924, 23,367 farms and 23.2 million acres had been allotted across Australia. Soldiers, nurses, and female relatives of deceased soldiers were able to apply for the scheme, the farms were sized at 20 acres and were traditionally planted to citrus, stone fruits, vegetables, and grapes so that the harvest was diversified and more easily managed by the family unit. With many of the grapes coming from the remnants of these farms in the Riverina, the Soldier Farms range is a tribute to the pioneers of our region.
